Sometimes it happens that the genuine bolts holding the fuel tank with a frame crack and break due to kilometres travelled, weight put on them and time. And I ask myself a question: how many cable ties should be used to put it back in place and be able to get to the nearest workshop without dragging the rear of the motorcycle behind? A standard KTM air filter does its job. But only if the element holding it is sealed!! KTM 690 airbox, however, has a tendency to let some air in on the sides… The only question is – where? (more…)
As KTM originally assembles pumps made in China, and in the case of replacement requires an astronomical amount of money, I decided that while we live in Europe, we will test another pump manufactured in Asia. (more…)
The genuine fuel filler in the 690 is operated with a key. Unfortunately, the locking mechanism works hard. It gets stuck causing a high risk of breaking a weak key. (more…)

Unfortunately, at the least expected moment the fuel pump decides to remind the surprised rider of its existence and with smaller or bigger signs of its end takes a bike to a standstill. Damn, to mount an engine guard made of plastic onto such a motorcycle?? Someone at KTM marketing/sales department took care of future accessory parts sale. The genuine guard may be good enough for everyday use, but it will fall apart with a stronger impact. For me, a compulsory exchange. (more…)
It happens that in earlier models the rocker arms can fail causing devastation in the engine. Manufacturing defect, material, construction? There are many theories. It is not that bad if bearing collapses on a rocker and the owner quickly catches the strange noise from the engine. Worse if the arm cracks spreading broken bits further in the engine.
